Palmerston Street Aqueduct
The finest structure on the Macclesfield Canal, the aqueduct carries the canal high over the town. It was built in 1829-31 together with the unique, all stone constructed, embankment. Notice the setts paving the street; these were only removed when the road was reconstructed in the early 2000s. Look closely at the left of the picture and you may see the ghostly image of a lady in a wide brimmed hat! The photographer wanted for soime unknown reason to remove this lady from the picture. Another has also been removed from the right side.

Aqueduct, Palmerston Street
Notice the stone surface to the embankments on either side of the aqueduct. These embankments are actually stone right through, with no earth in the core. This construction is believed to be unique on British canals.

Aqueduct, Grimshaw Lane
The corner of the stone dressing yard is on the left. On the right is the gate and gatehouse to Adelphi mill.
