Bollington Labour Party Womens Section on a weekend in London. They travelled on Friday evening. On Saturday they went to the Bloody Tower at the Tower of London, where this picture was taken. Next they went to see ‘The King and I’ at Drury lane. On Sunday morning they went to Petticoat lane market, then home. Possibly 1955.
In the period c.1948-c.1955 there were over 400 members of the Labour Party living and working in Bollington. Committees were established for each of the three wards and there were subscription collections from virtually every street in the town. The Bollington party met monthly, with delegates coming from the three wards.
The womens section was particularly active at this time, and met almost every week. Whist Drives afterwards, usually.
Three womens outings were organised each year; one half day, one whole day, one evening – perhaps to a pantomine.
