View over Adlington Road to the canal showing coal shutes on the embankment. The recreation ground is in the foreground and the Large Sunday School is the prominent building to the right of centre of the photograph.

Building description
-

Palmerston Street
The building on the left is the Holly Bush Inn as it was before the brewer’s Tudor was applied in the 1930s.
-

Meridian Inn
A rather poor picture taken on a rainy day! I suspect the building on the extreme left was then the Post Office. Postmarked 1909.
-

Red Lion fields / brow
Seems to be taken before the Red Lion Inn was built although a piece of land is hedged off in the corner.
