Newspaper report as follows: The wives and mothers of Bollington soldiers and sailors who have enlisted will long remember the invitation to tea on Saturday last at Turner Heath. Invitations had been sent out by post to every soldier’s mother and wife. Over 250 guests were present at the tea, which was laid out on the lawn in front of the house. After a most excellent tea, Mr Wanklyn welcomed his guests to Turner Heath. He said how delighted his household was to see them and how very much he sympathised with them in their anxiety and trouble. He hoped all their husbands and sons would return home safely to them.
