Brewery fire Higher Mills
3rd March 1931. Cotton spinning at Higher Mills had ceased by the 1870s. The low part of the mill then became a brewery until approximately 1920, after which it was used only for bottling Ind Coope beer. This activity was never restarted after the fire. See “Bollington in old picture postcards” for full details. Also www.happyvalley.org.uk/breweries .

Church Street
Just one car! The site of Higher mills, at the far end of the street, was occupied at this time and for many years by Shrigley Dyers, motto ‘We live to dye’! The houses on the right were built by the council in 1937.
