Economiser near boiler and chimney, Clarence Mill
Greens Economiser. The economiser worked rather like a domestic radiator in reverse. As water passed through its pipes on the way to the boiler, the pipes were heated from the outside by exhaust gases from the boiler furnace. Fuel was saved because the water was already hot when it entered the boiler. The boiler supplied steam to the engine.
