Evacuee from Richmond, Surrey. Evacuated 1944 in face of V2 rockets in London, although had stayed in London through the war. Picked up from East Sheen station and arrived in Macclesfield in afternoon. Taken to rest centre at St Paul’s, then to St john’s in Bollington. Placed with Mary and Frank Mayers, 23 Shrigley Road and stayed for 15 months. March 1945 mother came to collect her. Married in London and had 4 children. Paid some infrequent visits but in 1978 came to the Golden Wedding of Mary and Frank Mayers. Then divorced, she met Len Davenport of 39 Shrigley Road and they marries in 1979. Later moved to Irwell Rise.Len died 1992. Joyce worked for charity, WVS, Youth Club etc.
