    Presentation of seat, Grimshaw Lane

Note: there is confusion between the names Worthington and Washington. Bess was the wife of one!

Extract from “20 Years with the Bollington Council” by Claude Harlington, Town Clerk:
“The Labour Party, under Cllr John Washington’s chairmanship, presented three garden seats, one at the junction of of Ashbrook Road, one to the residents of Shrigley Court, and one in Grimshaw Lane just below the aqueduct.”

Here we see the Town Mayor, Cllr John Washington, with councillors and residents. In the picture Cllr John Washington and his wife Bess attend with Mr & Mrs Williams, the owners of the garage in Grimshaw Lane, and Norman Parry who constructed the seats.
