Alfred Smith in military uniform

Alfred Smith came to Bollington from London with Friedlands for whom he worked. Friedlands moved from a bombed out factory in East London to Lowerhouse mill. They manufactured dynamos which were a priority product during the war. Alfred was the youngest employee at age 14.
