Macclesfield Canal at Hurst Lane bridge
A beautiful picture of a horse drawn boat load of stone on the Macclesfield Canal approaching Hurst Lane bridge, no.26. Note the lack of overgrowth, the wide clean towpath and the telephone poles and wires. In the distance smoke rises from Oak Bank mill chimney.

Palmerston Street Aqueduct
The finest structure on the Macclesfield Canal, the aqueduct carries the canal high over the town. It was built in 1829-31 together with the unique, all stone constructed, embankment. Notice the setts paving the street; these were only removed when the road was reconstructed in the early 2000s. Look closely at the left of the picture and you may see the ghostly image of a lady in a wide brimmed hat! The photographer wanted for soime unknown reason to remove this lady from the picture. Another has also been removed from the right side.
