The steel hull of the narrow boat had been manufactured elsewhere, then delivered to Mr Bloor’s yard in Round Gardens (behind the Dog & Partridge), where he spent many months fitting it out. The picture shows the completed boat being removed to be taken to the canal for launching into the water. Access into this yard for both the crane and the trailer was extremely difficult because of the very narrow street and the acute turns.

Rudyard feeder, Rushton Spencer
Rudyard feeder is a small canal designed to take water from the River Dane at Gig Mill, Wincle, along the side of the Dane valley to Rushton Spencer then across the Mersey/Trent watershed and deliver it to the reservoir at Rudyard. Rudyard Reservoir provides water to the Caldon Canal, Leek branch, and thence to the Trent & Mersey Canal at Etruria, Stoke on Trent.

Grimshaw Lane canal wharf
Shows shop on Grimshaw Lane which was open until the 1970s but in the same series of tinted postcards as one showing the bridge on the Recreation Ground which was swept away in early 1930s.

Aqueduct, Palmerston Street
Notice the stone surface to the embankments on either side of the aqueduct. These embankments are actually stone right through, with no earth in the core. This construction is believed to be unique on British canals.
