This is the oldest picture in our collection. It was taken before the railway was built across the foreground in 1868/9. Notice the corner of the Methodist manse on the right edge of the picture. The grass in the foreground is now part of the lawn in front of St Gregory’s church. See ‘Bollington in old picture postcards’ number 4 for full details.

Waterhouse mill
The room with tall windows, front right, was the former water wheel house. Above that notice the pattern on the end of the main mill building – that denotes the original roof line. The roof space was turned into a useable space by raising the walls and fitting a roof with several small pitches. When the mill was demolished in 1962 only the to the left of the entrance road was left to become the main office for Kay Metzeller who built their own factory on the site. That and the offices were demolished in 2012 and the site re-developed into a housing estate – Waterwheel Way, Lomas Close, and Leat Place.
